Christina, one of our incredibly talented artists at Whimsy is also a teacher for K-12 specializing in art education. She is our go-to girl for the majority of our Kids and Teen Club painting events featured on Saturday mornings, because she is so engaging and has such interest in the little ones. It shows in the paintings that I see the kids leave with! Plus, the look of pride on their little faces is the greatest thing since cotton candy!!!
When I asked Christina what made her want to teach children to be artistic, she said, “Because I love kids! I love their energy and enthusiasm, their authenticity.
” I enjoy seeing the world through a child’s eyes…their interpretation isn’t so focused on what society views as good art, but what they view as good art.
“The art teachers’ relationship with their students is one of trust; as kids enter middle school creating art becomes vulnerable, and they will only continue if the teacher creates a safe place for their development. I love teaching Kids Club because children are fearless while creating art!”
We come into this world as open vessels full of wonder and without preconceived notions of what the world is. I tend to think this is one of our greatest and most underestimated attributes as humans; one that is unfortunately lost too soon as we go about the process of becoming responsible members of society. But can’t we have a happy medium?
At Whimsy, bringing that child-like openness back to our artists is what motivates us to keep coming to you with new art day after day. We want to entice you to come out and giggle! Adults sometimes require a modicum of libation (like moscato or a Fat Tire) to do it, but that’s okay! Sometimes you need a little magic potion!
We take it one step further by inviting kids and teens to come in for their own very special painting events once weekly. This fosters that wonderful ability that they have to imagine, create, and live fearlessly. I can’t think of anything more special to protect than that!
If you have a little artist in your home, bring them in and let us nurture their ideas and creativity! You can find Kids Club and Teen Club events by visiting our calendar at http://sites.cimplebox.com/
