So often, we are reminded of the selfless acts of a favorite teacher, this most special person who speaks with such passion as they relate their many years of wisdom to pupils. They dedicate their lives to the knowledge of others! The most inspiring teachers are the ones that truly love the subject matter and captivate with their words, instilling a strong sense of interest in you that will follow you throughout life as you surprise yourself by recalling a phrase they said that you hadn’t realized had attached itself to the recesses of your mind.
In our younger years, an educator is often the first adult-friend that we have. They can bridge the gap between our parents and our peers; someone who takes an interest in our abilities and thoughts, perhaps act as a confidant with a listening ear and sage advice.
Most artists will tell you that their mentor was integral in helping them find their own voice and inspiration; what would eventually become their signature, or ‘calling card’ as an artist. An art instructor does so much more than demonstrate the essential mechanics of creating incredible artwork; he also helps you to see the world through a new set of eyes and colors the way you perceive things for the rest of your career.
Many famed artists in history have taken up protégés when they desired to instill a passion for art in others. This has been the case for every Whimsy artist that we’ve had the fortune of working with over the years.
Whimsy Lead Artist Lindsey recalls her favorite instructor and the influence he continues to have on her art daily. She says, “My teachers in college taught me everything I know from the ground up. I was a seed and my teachers were the water that allowed me to grow. My main mentor encouraged me and eventually everything he taught me came together and made sense. Whenever I paint and get stuck I hear him saying something to me. His teachings stuck.”
When asked what it feels like to make the transition from artist to artist and teacher, she said, “Being an art teacher is cool and it’s great to see people grow. I like being able to help people when they get stuck and watch their excited expressions when they understand what I’m showing them and get it.”
It’s true; that “Eureka!” moment on a new artist’s face when it clicks is the best! Especially if they had that look of skepticism and never believed they would leave with a full painting when they first walked into the studio. It’s what keeps us coming back night after night!
We pride ourselves on taking these paintings step by step so that no man gets left behind. Because we are passionate about teaching, not just art, we make it our mission to make the paintings impressive looking while still very comfortable and FUN to do!
That’s what sets us apart, and we hope that if you don’t already know it, you’ll come in and let us show it! You never know what you’re capable of! We want to see you beam with pride!
Happy end-of-week, artists!
